Orthodontics (Teeth)

Orthodontics is the specialist branch of dentistry concerned with the growth and development of the teeth and jaws. The orthodontic department provides a secondary care service whilst working closely with specialist orthodontic practitioners who work within the primary dental care setting.

We are able to accept all patients for consultation however only those with problems in the more severe index of orthodontic treatment groups, with a dental health score of 4 or 5, are accepted for treatment.  Adults can only be accepted when they require multidisciplinary treatment, for example in conjunction with maxillofacial surgery or restorative dentistry.

Some of the most common reasons for referral are: protruding front teeth, crowded teeth, impacted teeth, missing teeth, problems with the bite, facial deformity. Referral is usually made through the patient’s general dentist, occasionally via their GP.
