Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists work with people of all ages. We treat both physical and psychological conditions to help people overcome the effects of disability caused by illness, accident or ageing. Our aim is to enable people to lead their lives as independently as possible.
Following a referral the patient will be seen by an occupational therapist who will discuss their abilities prior to admission, identify their present abilities and establish a treatment plan to enable them to be discharged from hospital.

Occupational therapists work with:

  • Patients
  • Family/carers
  • Physiotherapy
  • Social workers
  • Speech and language therapists
  • Nurses
  • Medical teams
  • Community psychiatric nurse
  • Psychologists

 We work within:

  • General medicine
  • Care of older people
  • Trauma and orthopaedics, including spinal surgery
  • Surgery
  • Neurology inpatients/outpatients

 We also provide:

  • An orthotics (splinting) service to both in and outpatients
  • A wheelchair and pressure care service to inpatients
