Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care (HOPE)

Haematology, Oncology and Palliative Care (HOPE)
The cancer services department provides a comprehensive clinical service for the county of Somerset. The Beacon Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton holds outpatient clinics for Haematology and Oncology patients.  There is also the Beacon Day Unit for chemotherapy treatments, Radiotherapy unit and inpatient facilities on the Beacon and Haematology wards.
All categories of solid cancer or malignant tumours (with the exception of paediatrics and the rarer cancers such as testicular, sarcoma and primary brain) are seen by the department.
Most radiotherapy treatments are delivered within the Beacon Centre (Musgrove's cancer centre). Brachytherapy remains at Bristol.

Chemotherapy is delivered both on a day care (at Taunton and Yeovil) and inpatient basis (Taunton only). Outreach chemotherapy clinics are currently held at Bridgwater and Deane Barton Community Unit. Inpatient beds for specialist oncology treatments and side effect management are on the Beacon Ward within Musgrove Park Hospital.
