Children's Day Surgery

Final Day SurgeryThe nursing team in children’s day surgery is led by sister, Jacky Fawcet. If you are a forthcoming patient, Jacky and her team look forward to meeting you on the day of your admission. We understand that coming to hospital, even for a short time, can be a stressful time for the whole family and we strive to provide a welcoming and professional service so that you and your child will have a positive experience.

The children’s day surgery department is located in the hospital’s designated Day Surgery building, next to the multi-storey car park.

Our service treats and cares for children aged between 1 and 16 years, or, in certain cases up to 18 years, who need to have minor surgical procedures suitable to be carried out as day surgery. This can include: minor ear, nose and throat surgery; orthopaedic surgery; dental surgery; general surgery.

A dedicated team of trained children’s nurses, paediatric anaesthetists, and surgeons will be responsible for caring for children and their parents/guardians/carers throughout the child’s time with us.  Our joint aim will be to provide you with family centred, excellent and safe care.

Pre-operative visits

Your pre-operative visit gives you a chance to meet some of us, have a look around, and ask any questions:

If you would like a pre-operative assessment visit please contact us to arrange a day and time by calling us on 01823 342762.

Our storyboards were designed to help children of all ages understand what to expect when they come to us as a day surgery patient.  We hope you and your child find them helpful.
