Jo Morrison

I studied medicine in Oxford and was awarded a first class BA honors degree (1992) and BM BCh (1995). I was awarded the prize medal for the MRCOG exam (1999), prior to sub-specialist training in gynaecological oncology at Oxford. During this time I was a Wellbeing of Women Research Training Fellow, completed a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) and was a NIHR Clinical Lecturer, leading a research group studying ovarian cancer treatment.

I have worked as a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at the Somerset Gynaecological Cancer Centre in Taunton, since January 2010, specialising in the surgical treatment of gynaecological cancers.  I was struck by the high quality of care here, delivered by an excellent team, of which I am delighted to be a part.

I lead the colposcopy service and the gynae oncology enhanced recovery programme, introducing measures to improve peri-operative (time around surgery) care and recovery after surgery.

In addition to providing a comprehensive gynaecological cancer service, I have been the Co-ordinating Editor for the Cochrane Gynae, Neuro and Orphan Cancer Group since 2011, internationally promoting evidence-based medicine in gynaecological cancer.  I also represent the South West on the board of the British Gynaecological Cancer Society.
