I have been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Musgrove Park Hospital since 2005. I studied medicine at Sheffield qualifying with honours in 1992. My general orthopaedic surgical training was based in the South Yorkshire region and Sydney, Australia. I undertook two international specialist training Fellowships: one as the Lower Limb Fellow at the Adidas sports medicine clinic in Auckland, New Zealand and the other as a Trauma Fellow at Auckland Hospital.

I provide an extensive range of open and arthroscopic knee, foot and ankle surgical procedures, including knee replacements, ACL reconstructions and surgery for general foot and ankle deformity, sporting, traumatic or arthritic conditions. I have a specific interest in complex peri-articular trauma of the lower limb, including the use of Ilizarov external fixators when indicated

I have published research papers and book chapters on ACL reconstruction mechanics, trauma care and trauma teams, MRI findings in knee disorders, the diagnosis of joint infection, consent and the use of vacuum mattresses in pre-hospital care.

I am a surgical trainer and educational supervisor for the junior doctors within the NHS. I am the local lead for orthopaedic trauma care and medical student musculoskeletal training. I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Bristol.

I have recently helped set up an “acute knee clinic” streamlining the care of patients with significant knee injuries.

Throughout my career, I have been heavily involved in Mountain Rescue, combining my interest in medicine and the outdoors. I was awarded the Queens Jubilee Medal in 2002.

I am married to Helen, a local physiotherapist and have two children, Tom (14) and Jen (12). In my free time I enjoy being outside in the local area cycling, kayaking or walking.
