Ian Eyre-Brook

After qualifying in Bristol I moved, via Newcastle, to Sheffield where I was a junior doctor before becoming a registrar, lecturer in surgery and senior registrar.

I then carried out a short period of research and Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP - a procedure that combines upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy and X-rays to treat problems of the bile and pancreatic ducts) training in Gloucester before being appointed as a consultant at Musgrove Park Hospital in 1989.

In my early consultant career I focused on the treatment of oesophageal, gastric, biliary (bile duct) and pancreatic disease both benign and malignant.

My field of practice is now colorectal, biliary and general surgery.

With the nationally agreed centralisation of upper GI cancer to Bristol, my involvement in colorectal cancer has increased so that the majority of my work load in the last 10 years has been the treatment of colorectal malignancy. However, I continue to treat benign biliary disease and perform general surgical procedures such as hernia repair.
