I graduated from Queens University Belfast and subsequently did my training in St Thomas’s Hospital London before being awarded a competitive grant for a two year research fellowship at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund (now Cancer Research UK).
I was accepted for and completed my specialist training in gynaecological oncology (female reproductive system cancers) at Barts and The Royal Marsden Hospitals in London. This included sub specialty training in colposcopy laparoscopic and robotic surgery (minimally invasive surgery), clinical and medical oncology (treatment of cancer), palliative care, plastics and colorectal surgery.
I was appointed as a consultant at Musgrove Park Hospital in 2008 and became lead for gynaecological oncology in 2009. I was elected chair of the regional site specific network group for gynaecological oncology in 2010.
As lead for our department my aim has been to provide the highest quality of service to our patients. We ensure that they have access to all the potential surgical and onocological treatments available including complex laparoscopic surgery.
