Baby Memorial Garden

Baby Memorial Garden

The Baby Memorial Garden (BMG) is situated in a small wooded glade in Taunton Deane Cemetery. The garden is secluded and affords space for personal contemplation.

The chaplaincy department at Musgrove Park Hospital arranges for the burial of babies lost through miscarriage, or at an early stage of pregnancy, to take place in the garden. During these burials a simple non-denominational service is conducted by one of the Hospital Chaplains. This happens on the second Wednesday of the month at 9.15am. This will normally be a full calendar month between the pregnancy loss and the burial.

For example, following a miscarriage in August the remains will be buried in October

If you would like to attend the service, you are welcome to contact the chaplains to confirm the correct date for your burial.

The garden has recently been improved and updated with some animal figures, which tell a story designed to help children come to terms with the loss of a sibling.  Copies of a book called 'Dear Mum' are available from both the chaplains and crematorium.

All burials which take place in the baby memorial garden, are entered into the records held by the crematorium.
