Equality Impact Assessments

An Introduction to Equality Impact Assessments

An Equality Impact Assessment is a tool required by the Care Quality Commission to improve the quality of health services by ensuring that individuals and teams think carefully about the likely impact of their work on different communities or groups, and helps achieving the aims of the Single Equality Scheme. It involves anticipating the consequences of the Trust's policies, processes, procedures, plans strategies, services or any other activity on different communities and making sure that any negative consequences are eliminated or minimised and opportunities for promoting equality are maximised.

As part of best practice our Equality Impact Assessments relate to race, disability, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion and belief equality. The focus our Equality Impact Assessments is on improving outcomes for our patients, employment experiences for our staff, and on eliminating discrimination. Mainstreaming equality and diversity issues enables us to promote a culture where everyone considers the equality relevance and impact of their actions and decisions on others.
