New wheelchairs for Musgrove's physiotherapy department thanks to 'Friends donation - 29 April 2019

190418 Physio Wheelchairs GroupMusgrove Park League of Friends has donated three wheelchairs to the physiotherapy team to benefit the patients they see.

The dedicated wheelchairs have features that are useful for hospital inpatients who are undergoing physiotherapy as part of their rehabilitation.

They are higher than standard wheelchairs, which is better for patients who have had surgery on their spines, some hip operations or other orthopaedic procedures.

The arms come down, which makes it easier for patients who need to slide in and out of the chairs and they are easier to steer and two of the wheelchairs have leg lifts.

The League of Friends donated £1,628 for the purchase of the wheelchairs and members met with some of the physiotherapists who explained how they are benefiting patients.

“Already our new wheelchairs are making a big difference,” senior physiotherapist, Grainne Jamieson, said.

“These dedicated wheelchairs are more dignified and comfortable for our patients.

“We want to say a massive thankyou to the League of Friends, we are incredibly grateful.”
