Junior doctor strike action: 26 and 27 April 2016 - 25 April 2016

Junior doctors are due to take industrial action from 8am to 5pm on Tuesday 26 April and Wednesday 27 April. This is a full ‘walk out’ and includes emergency care.

Senior clinicians, nursing staff and operation leads have worked together over the last few weeks to ensure that we have effective plans in place to ensure that the hospital remains completely safe during the proposed strike periods. We are confident that anyone coming to the hospital during this period will get the high quality, safe care they can expect from us.

As with previous days of industrial action, this has meant that we have had to postpone some planned surgery and appointments to ensure that we are able to continue to deliver high quality care to those people who need us in an emergency. Where this has been necessary we have been contacting those affected directly as soon as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience this causes, however, patient safety is always our utmost priority.

If you have an appointment with us on the day of a strike, and have not been contacted by us to say it has been postponed, please do attend your appointment as normal. There is no need to call in and check.

If you need medical assistance during the strike period you should use NHS services in the way you normally would, but do ask that you are mindful of whether you definitely need A&E services before you attend, as we treat all patients in order of priority, so there could be a wait for more minor illnesses and ailments.
