Musgrove named as one of the top performing hospitals for complaint handling - 23 September 2015

Musgrove Park Hospital is in the top ten performing hospitals nationally for the number of complaints investigated by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman a new report has revealed.

The report, published yesterday (Tuesday, 22 September) showed the number of complaints investigated by the Ombudsman for each acute hospital in the country in comparison to the number of episodes of clinical care. Musgrove had the eighth lowest number of investigations in the country at 1.9 per 100,000 episodes of clinical care.

Martine Price, Associate Director of Patient Experience, said: “We always endeavour to provide the best possible care for our patients but know that we don’t get it right all the time for every patient.

“Therefore we have worked hard through our Patient Advice and Liaison service (PALs) to support patients when they have concerns so that we try and resolve any issues as soon as possible, and would always offer to meet with the patient and their family to help understand what has gone wrong and what we can do to put it right.”

Concerns and complaints raised about Musgrove Park Hospital are regularly reviewed and themes fed back to the wards and departments so they can learn and improve, and the hospital’s Board.
