Baby loss service to benefit from donated funds - 23 March 2015

Three midwives, one who works for Musgrove Park Hospital, ran Taunton Half Marathon to raise money for décor and furniture refurbishments for the Rowan Suite within the maternity department at the hospital.

Midwives Hilary Fitzgerald, Annette Burrough and Abbe Dilloway were sponsored by their friends and families to run the Taunton Half Marathon. Between the three of them their total money raised reached £700. DSC01623

Maternity matron, Katy Evans, said; "The Rowan Suite has two rooms and is where a woman and her partner are cared for when their baby dies. When a baby passes away suddenly and unexpectedly, the death is a terrible shock and can be one of the most distressing events that can ever happen in a couple’s life.

Along with kindness and compassionate care a comfortable homely environment is also important during this grief stricken time. The Rowan Suite decoration is very tired and we are aiming to totally redecorate and refurbish the two rooms by May 2015. We are so pleased and grateful to our colleague Hilary and her friends for choosing to donate to our worthwhile cause; I know it will make a real difference to the families who use this facility".
