Introducing ‘DIAGNOSIS’ a new exhibition for The Musgrove Gallery - 11 February 2015

A new exhibition exploring the subject of photography and photographic processes as experimental and diagnostic tools, is now on display at The Musgrove Gallery, Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.

The exhibition enables the viewer to re-imagine objects, places and spaces, including the use of techniques and processes such as photograms, image manipulation, and Photoshop.

Exhibiting artists include Deborah Westmancoat, Fiona Mackenzie-Spence, Jessica Summers, John Brooks, and Martin Urmson.

The artists have used diverse and experimental approaches in their photographic content within the exhibition.

Deborah Westmancoat’s series of photographs investigate the nature of flooding, prompted by several days of continuous rainfall. Deborah explored the nature of gravity upon water, firstly falling then pooling.

Jessica Summers’ photograms were created using materials sourced from the natural landscape. Playing with light and experimenting with chemicals both in the environment and within a darkroom, yielded captivating results.Photogram Series By Jessica Summers

The exhibition coincides and resonates with the installation of a series of prints by Jenny Graham and Pennie Elfick in the patient waiting and changing areas of the Diagnostic Imaging Department, which have been created in partnership with the Diagnostic Imaging Department of the hospital, using their technology to inform and create the prints.

Sara Dudman, curator said: “Art for Life’s work around the hospital varies and we try to make links between the temporary exhibitions and other hospital arts projects wherever possible. This exhibition will appeal equally to the scientists amongst us and to the artists – come and see for yourself.”

The wall-based exhibition is complimented by a beautiful collection of ceramic pots and pods by Belinda Brownlee.

Art for Life are proud to host this exhibition by such well-recognised South West artists. The exhibitions programme within The Musgrove Gallery seeks to offer opportunities for staging exhibitions which stimulate and uplift the audience and also connect with the hospital environment and function itself.

Exhibitions are open every day in The Musgrove Gallery (Level 1, Queen’s Building), Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton.
