Musgrove Park Hospital’s Art for Life programme and Somerset College’s BA Hons Surface and Interior Design Course, Art For Life Winnerhave come together to create a body of artwork to enrich the main corridor in the new Jubilee Building.

Each year, second year students work with Art for Life to focus on uplifting a particular area of the hospital. The 2014 project saw the students set a brief to develop artwork in response to a print recently acquired by the Trust from Paintings in Hospitals, entitled ‘Multiplication’ by internationally acclaimed artist Howard Hodgkin.

At the end of the project a small panel from the Art for Life team judged the work produced and selected 6 artworks for display in the new Jubilee Building at the hospital.  In addition an overall winner, Bridie Heffernan, was awarded a cash prize.

The selected artwork was launched on Tuesday, 14th October at 3.30pm in the Jubilee Building.

Lisa Harty, Art and Design Co-ordinator with Art for Life, said, “It is great to continue our annual project with Somerset College students. The project allows us to create artwork that improves our hospital environment for patients, visitors and staff whilst also giving the students a valuable experience of working on a live project.”
