Musgrove supports Nutrition and Hydration Week - 18 March 2014

The hospital’s catering and dietetics teams have joined forces to promote the week (17th – 21st March) by running a range of events in the hospital. From Monday there will be a stand in the Beacon Centre promoting the importance of good nutrition and hydration as well as running fun games such as ‘Guess the calories’ competitions and quizzes.

Many wards are also putting up decorations and are taking part in a bake-off style competition, cakes of all shapes and sizes made by staff will be judged on the wards and then added to the afternoon tea party, held on the wards, on Wednesday (19th March) for staff, visitors and patients. Cakes and refreshments have kindly been donated by local suppliers.
Facilities Manager, Phil Shelley, said: “With around three million people at risk of malnutrition in the UK, it is important that everyone is aware of the risks and promotes good practices that can help prevent malnutrition and dehydration.
“Preventing malnutrition improves the health and wellbeing of the person and removes the burden on health care services. This is why we want to raise awareness of the importance of good nutrition and hydration in the hospital.”
The hospital puts a lot of emphasis on providing good nutrition for its patients and the dieticians work closely with the wards and catering staff to ensure that patients’ dietary requirements are met.
