Here’s your chance to come and taste our hospital food, and tell us what you really think… - 28 August 2014

This Friday 29th August, Musgrove Park Hospital is teaming up with apetito, which provides the hospital’s patient catering, to invite members of the public, staff and visitors to come and try out a range of patient meals and give their opinions.

The tasting session, which will be held in the Jubilee Concourse from 11am to 2pm, coincides with the launch of a new Department of Health report by the Hospital Foods Standards Panel which will recommend five required food standards for hospitals, as well as data on the quality of hospital food.

The new standards will show how NHS hospitals perform on a number of food indicators; including quality, choice, food available between meals, and menus approved by a dietician. This information will then be used to give hospitals a rating using a traffic light system, presented as one national league table as well as interactive maps about individual hospitals, which will be published on the NHS Choices website.

Musgrove Park Hospital already works very closely with apetito to ensure that the patient food service is continually developed; providing good nutritional care for all and to constantly gain feedback with a view to improve.

Director of Nursing and Governance, Carol Dight, said: “The care our patients receive when with us is our top priority and that includes the quality of the food, drink and refreshments we provide them, along with the nursing care and treatment they receive.

“We want to ensure we are constantly improving our provision for our patients and welcome the extension of the national food standards assessments so that we can continue to learn and improve “

Phil Shelley, Facilities Manager at Musgrove Park Hospital, said; “We want to see as many people as possible at the tasting session to get your opinions so that we can really find out what you think of our hospital food and how we can improve it. A food sampling session like this provides the public with genuine food from the existing patient menu, while having representatives from apetito and the hospital’s facilities team to answer any questions during this time.

“It is only by working with patients and families that we can ensure our food and hydration levels always continue to improve – putting our patients first at all times.”

The food tasting experience will be based in the concourse of the hospital’s new Jubilee Building on Friday 29th August from 11am – 2pm.
