Musgrove’s Chief Executive named as an outstanding leader by health service leaders - 03 April 2014
Jo Cubbon

Musgrove Park Hospital’s Chief Executive Jo Cubbon has been recognised as one of the outstanding leaders of NHS provider organisations by a panel of healthcare leaders.

Jo was selected as one of the top 50 Chief Executives nationally in a survey of influential leaders in healthcare carried out by the Health Service Journal magazine.

The accolade is fantastic news for both Jo and Musgrove Park Hospital, as they said the judges’ decision was not purely based on performance, but the percentage of staff who would be happy for a friend or family member to be treated at their organisation.

Speaking about the honour Jo said: “I see this as real acknowledgement for just how hard staff at Musgrove are all working to provide the best possible experience for our patients.

“It may be my name that they have selected as the chief executive, but without our staff’s hard work and dedication to make Musgrove a place where people get high quality care, with dignity and compassionate, then those levels of recommendation to friends and family would not be possible.

“I alone cannot make that happen, and therefore I wanted to express my thanks for all the hard work staff have done this year, and continue to do, to ensure that Musgrove continues to be one of the best places in the country for people to be treated.”

In announcing Jo’s selection the judging panel, which included Paul Baumann, chief financial officer at NHS England, and Chris Hopson, chief executive of the NHS Confederation, said: “Seen as savvy and engaging, and praised for challenging people to work in a patient focused way even before it was fashionable to do so, Jo has been at Taunton since 2008 and is described as doing an exceptional job.
