Karen picked up her award a special awards lunch, hosted by Mölnlycke Health Care, which took place at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Invited guests saw David Foster, Deputy Chief Nursing Officer at the Department of Health, present Karen with her Innovation in Care Award.

Karen was given her award for a case study which focused on a patient who developed a radiotherapy induced skin reaction following treatment to their spine. As a result of the severity of this patient’s skin reaction, Karen worked with the team at Musgrove to investigate different ways of providing this treatment. These investigations have resulted in a change of policy for the delivery of this treatment which will minimise the risk of this type of reaction occurring again. Karen received £500 for her and her team to further develop this project.

Karen Morgan, Macmillan Specialist Radiographer at Musgrove Park Hospital said, "I was thrilled to receive this prestigious award from Molnlycke and hope to use the scholarship to further support the management of skin reactions in radiotherapy patients."

Babette Fuller, Manager of the Beacon (Cancer) Centre at Musgrove Park Hospital said, “Delivering high quality, safe, patient centred care is an absolute priority at Musgrove and this is exemplified in the work Karen and the team have undertaken. Winning this award demonstrates the hard work and commitment of all involved to ensure the quality of the care we provide is consistently improved. We are all very proud of Karen and are delighted she has won this award.”
