New Director of Nursing and Governance announced - 05 June 2013

Musgrove’s former Director of Operations Carol Dight has been announced as the hospital’s new Executive Director of Nursing and Governance.

Carol was appointed to the role following an extensive competitive recruitment process involving a large number of applicants from external organisations.

Carol has had a wide-ranging and varied career in the NHS, training at the Bristol Royal Infirmary in the 1980s. Once registered, she worked in a number of hospitals across the South West in specialties such as, trauma and orthopaedics, burns and plastics, general surgery and neurology.

Relocating to Somerset in 1992 from a Sisters post in Bristol, Carol gained experience working in Day Surgery and Orthopaedic Theatres at Musgrove Park Hospital. Carol then worked for a local Primary Care Trust (PCT) where she worked in a very busy Minor Injuries Unit as well as in other senior roles within the PCT.

In March 2003, Carol returned to Musgrove Park Hospital and since this time has undertaken a range of roles including orthopaedic and trauma matron, associate director of nursing and governance in the planned care division and divisional director. During this time she has continually focused her energy on improving the care given to patients at the hospital.

Speaking about her appointment Carol said: “I am very excited to be moving into the Director of Nursing role, I care passionately about patients and their care, and also for the staff that work at Musgrove Park Hospital. In this role, I plan to continue to place my focus on the things that really matter to our patients, to be open and transparent and to ensure we learn from our patients at every opportunity so we constantly improve the care we provide to the community we serve.”
