Tinnitus Awareness week – offering support at Musgrove - 30 January 2013

During Tinnitus Awareness Week, Monday 4th February to Friday 8th of February, Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton will be providing information and advice to members of the public who are and know people who are affected by Tinnitus.

Drop-in sessions will be held on Monday 4th February and Friday 8th February between 9am and 12.30pm in Musgrove’s Audiology Department situated on Level 1 of Duchess Building.

Tinnitus is the perception of noises in the head and / or the ears which has no external source.

It is not a disease or illness; it is a symptom generated within the auditory system.

Tinnitus is known to be one of the most common health problems facing the UK today.

Mild tinnitus is common - about 10 per cent of the population have it all the time.

The sessions, hosted by Hearing Therapist at Musgrove Park Hospital, Mandy Hilton, will provide information about the condition and its causes as well as advice on how the condition can be managed.

Amanda says “I hope that by Supporting the aims of British Tinnitus Association and raising awareness of tinnitus, we can help more people learn how to manage this condition effectively.”

Plans for a tinnitus self-help group at Musgrove are currently being co-ordinated following the success of a quarterly group supported by Amanda in Wells.

If you are interested in being involved and / or meeting others with tinnitus in a positive and supportive environment, with the aim of learning to manage tinnitus effectively, please register your interest either by dropping in, by telephone 01823 342158 or via email Amanda.Hilton@tst.nhs.uk
