Musgrove Park Hospital is awarded for high standards of care - 29 August 2013

The Endoscopy department at Taunton’s Musgrove Park Hospital has been awarded a prestigious national accreditation for the high standards of care it provides.

Big Thank You - July 2013The department recently achieved accreditation from the sought-after Joint Advisory Group (JAG) which formally recognises that a high quality endoscopy service is operating in the hospital.

Only 10% of hospitals achieve immediate accreditation following a JAG assessment and Musgrove Park Hospital is proud to be one of them.

Saffron Flower, Senior Sister in the endoscopy department at Musgrove Park Hospital said: “We are extremely proud to achieve this tremendous accolade, which reflects the high standard of service we provide to our patients at Musgrove.

“The Joint Advisory Group feedback stated this is an excellent, patient focused service led by a strong multidisciplinary team. There is a strong culture of clinical governance and the training provided to all endoscopists is of a very high standard.”

The Endoscopy team were praised for the extremely positive patient feedback they received and a robust and embedded clinical governance framework. The service was also congratulated on making staff feel cared for, both professionally and socially.

JAG were impressed with Musgrove Park Hospital as a whole and explained it was evident that Governance throughout the organisation was excellent; and clearly to a standard that is maintained continuously, not just to pass this particular accreditation. In recognition of the work the JAG team have carried out to achieve this accreditation they were awarded July’s Big Thank you.

The Big Thank You, which is supported by Taunton’s Buff Urban Day Spa, is a way of rewarding staff for their achievements. Each month a different team in the hospital is selected for their hard work and outstanding success at Musgrove.

Presenting the endoscopy team with a cake, Executive Director of Corporate Planning and Performance, David Allwright said; “The endoscopy department works incredibly hard to ensure the quality of care they deliver to patients is of a high standard. The result of their dedication is clear to see in the formal recognition this accreditation brings. It is very important we recognise the endoscopy team’s efforts by saying a Big Thank You to them all.”

A member of the team was given the chance to win gift vouchers worth £80, donated by Taunton’s Buff Urban Day Spa. Names are picked at random and the winner for July was Joyce Gachanja, Registered General Nurse.

Staff in the endoscopy department diagnose and treat disorders of the colon, stomach and oesophagus in an environment dedicated to patient safety, privacy and comfort. On average the hospital performs 9,000 endoscopies per year, serving a population of approximately 345,000.
